S.N. Nuclearelectrica SA (“SNN”) informs  that Cernavoda NPP Unit 1 will be shut down in a controlled manner, on Friday to Saturday night ( January 15-16, 2021), in order to carry out some remediation works due to the occurance of a dysfunctionality on the classic/secondary technological circuit of Unit 1. The power reduction manoeuvres will start on January 16, 2021, at 00:00 hrs.

The controlled  shutdown of CNE Cernavoda’s Unit 1 is performed according to the procedures applicable in case of such events and is necessary in order to allow CNE Cernavoda’s staff to perform the remediation works under safety conditions given the fact that the working fluid (demineralized water) is at high temperature and pressure.

The failure occurred at the classic technological circuit of Unit 1 and the related remediation works do not have any adverse impact on the nuclear safety, the environment, the personnel or the population.

SNN will issue a press release when the remediation works are completed, at the moment when Unit 1 will be reconnected to the National Energy System.
