SN Nuclearelectrica SA announces that on June 11, 2024, in the classical part of the Cernavoda NPP, Unit 2, a minor fire occurred at a pump in the basement of the turbine building, without impact on other equipment.

According to the safety measures applicable in such situations the personnel was evacuated from the turbine building. There were no casualties, persons exposed to smoke or collateral damage.

The equipment is currently being isolated and investigations are underway to identify the cause.

The minor fire and smoke release had no impact on nuclear safety and production and the plant was operating at nominal power and in normal parameters.

It is recalled that Unit 1 is in the planned shutdown programme.
