SN Nuclearelectrica SA informs about the decision of the Board of Directors of SNN, convened in the meeting of April 8th, 2020, to initiate the scheduled outage program of Unit 1 of Cernavoda NPP, starting with the date of June 20th, 2020.
Usually, the planned outages of nuclear units are performed alternately, once every two years for each unit, over the period May-June, but in international pandemic conditions, similar to other nuclear power plants, the planned outage of Unit 1 at Cernavoda has been postponed.
We remind the fact that the decision to postpone the planned outage of Unit 1 Cernavoda NPP was adopted on April 7th, 2020 by the Board of Directors of SNN and was determined by the current context of the COVID-19 epidemic in conjunction with the measures related to the Staff Protection Plan, in order to provide the continuity of operation and production, since the development of a planned outage is a complex investment project through the logistics structure, contracting and the staff involved.
The decision to initiate the planned outage program of Unit 1 Cernavoda NPP starting with June 20th, for a period of approximately 42 days, was adopted by the Board of Directors of SNN convened in the meeting held on May 8th, 2020, based on the analysis of all the factors impacting on the planned outage of Unit 1.
SNN shall issue, prior to June 20th, 2020, a press release on the actual start of the planned outage program of Unit 1 Cernavoda NPP.
Postponing and carrying out the scheduled outage of Unit 1 of Cernavoda NPP starting with the date of June 20th, 2020 does not affect the maintenance of the high level of nuclear security and operation efficiency of the Power Plant, the production taking place under normal parameters.
