Press release – Cernavoda NPP reconnection to the National Power GRid

Press release

SN Nuclearelectrica SA announces that Cernavoda NPP Unit 1 will be reconnected to the National Power Grid during the evening of 06.01.2017.

The decision to reconnect Unit 1 to the Grid is made in consultation with the National Energy Dispatch, considering the stabilization trend of the weather conditions in the Dobrogea region, as per the prognosis communicated by the National Weather Administration, conditions which reduce the risk of new disturbances occurring in the National Power Grid.

Unit 1 was automatically disconnected from the National Power Grid in the morning of the same day, at 08:25, due to a disturbance on a 400 KV power evacuation line, belonging to the grid operator, due to severe weather conditions in the Dobrogea region.

The disturbance lead to the automatic disconnection of Unit’s 1 turbogenerator from the National Power Grid, the reactor remaining at low operating power, ready at any time for reconnection.

During the outage, the systems of the power plant operated in compliance with the project and there was no impact on the safety of the reactor, operating personnel, population and environment.
