Press release – The disconnection of Cernavoda NPP Unit 1 from SEN

Press release

SN Nuclearelectrica SA announces that Cernavoda NPP Unit 1 was disconnected from the National Power Grid, during the afternoon of 08 November 2016, 15:37 hours, due to external reasons caused by the damaging of the 400 KV power evacuation line connected to the grid.

The damage, due to unfavourable weather in the area, caused the automatic disconnection of Unit 1 turbo generator from the National Power Grid.

Following the power reduction caused by the disconnection of the turbo generator from the grid, Cernavoda NPP specialists established the necessity to perform additional repair works which, according to the procedures of the power plant, can only be carried out with the reactor in shut down mode.

After the completion of these works, Cernavoda NPP Unit 1 will be reconnected to the National Power Grid.

The system of the power plant are functioning in compliance with the project and there is no impact on the nuclear safety of the reactor, operational personnel, population and environment.

SN Nuclearelectrica SA will issue a press release once Unit 1 is reconnected to the National Power Grid.
