Cernavoda NPP Unit 1 – unplanned shutdown

SN Nuclearectrica SA announces the desynchronization of Cernavoda NPP Unit 1 from the national power grig, on April 19th 2010, as consequence to an earth flaw of the S phase on a 24 kV bar. The 24 kV bar connects the turbo generator to the power evacuation transformer, being situated outside the turbo generator building.

The NPP specialists have determined that the earth flaw was caused by a flashover of the electro insulation rod that activates the 24 kV separator afferent to the power evacuation transformer. The flaw was also influenced by humidity conditions.

All security systems have functioned according to the project and the power plant personnel has respected the established procedures.

The parallel with the National Power Grid is scheduled for the evening of April 21st, 2010.

We mention the fact that the event did not affect the security of the personnel, of the population or of the environment.
