Technical visit of the European Commission to Cernavoda NPP

During March 22-24, 2010, a delegation from the General Directorate for Energy of the European Commission, lead by Massimo Garribba, Legal Questions and EURATOM coordination, international relations – nuclear was present in Romania for a technical visit at Cernavoda NPP.

On this occasion, the European representatives met with the Minister of Economy, Commerce and Business Environment, Adriean Videanu and with the Secretary of State, Tudor Serban, President of EnergoNuclear Board of Directors.

At the working meetings also took part the representatives of the Ministry of National Defense, Ministry of Transport, representatives of the investors and a team of specialists from AECL Canada; the meetings were presided by Dan Ionescu, General Manager of EnergoNuclear.

The agenda of the meetings included technical aspects related to nuclear safety issues and the fulfillment of the requirements from the regulations and standards in force.

The visit of the European delegation represents a necessary step in the process of obtaining a favorable opinion from the European Commission regarding the investment project at Cernavoda NPP Units 3 and 4, according to the provisions of EURATOM Treaty, art. 41.
The working schedule included the visit of Units 1 and 2 which are in operation, Units 3 and 4 and the Intermediate Repository for Spent Fuel.
