Postponement of the controlled shutdown of Cernavoda NPP Unit 1 announced on January 12, 2021

PRESS RELEASE

Bucharest, January 15, 2021

SN Nuclearelectrica SA announces that the controlled shutdown of Cernavoda NPP Unit 1, announced by press release on January 12, 2021, will be postponed for a later date.

The controlled shutdown of Unit 1 is postponed in order to ensure the production of Unit 1 of Cernavoda NPP necessary in the National Energy System during this period when the temperatures in the country will be very low.

The postponement of the controlled shutdown, initially planned for the night of 15 to 16 January 2021, has no impact on the normal operation of Unit 1, nuclear safety, personnel or population. As well, there have been taken compensatory measures to ensure Unit 1 functioning at normal parameters until the performing of the remediation works of the classical/secondary circuit that were to be unfolded during the controlled shutdown scheduled for this weekend.

SNN will communicate the date on which Unit 1 will be shutdown in a controlled manner in order to carry out the aforementioned works.
