The resynchronization of Cernavoda NPP Unit 1 to the Grid

SN Nuclearelectrica SA informs its shareholders and investors that the works  related to the planned outage of Cernavoda NPP Unit 1 have been completed and that the resynchronization to the National Power Grid took place in the evening of 05.08.2020. Unit 1 entered the planned outage program on June 20th, 2020, in order to perform tha planned maintenance works, which are carried out once every 2 years for each unit. During the planned outage, over 10.000 activities were carried out from the following programs:

  • Preventive and corrective maitenance program
  • Inspection program
  • Mandatory testing program during the planned outage, in compliance with the requirements of the National Commission for the Control of Nuclear Activities, which can be performed only in shutdown mode;
  • Project modifications implementation program for certain systems/equipments/components.

The decision to enter the planned outage of Cernavoda NPP Unit 1 was delayed from the initial planned timeline, due to the international context generated by the COVID 19 pandemic coroborated with the measures provided in the Personnel Protection Plan, similar to other nuclear power plants, for ensuring the continuity of production and operation. The decision to enter the planned outage program of Cernavoda NPP Unit 1 starting with June 20th 2020 was adopted by the SNN Board of Directors in the meeting of May 8th 2020, based on the analysis of all factors bearing on the planned outage of Unit 1.

All the works carried out during the planned outage were performed with the strict observation of the nuclear safety measures and also the prevention measures against the spread of COVID 19 infection.
