Press release – the reconection of Cernavoda NPP Unit 2 to the grid

Bucharest, December 10th 2017

 

 

Societatea Nationala Nuclearelectrica SA (“SNN”) announces that Cernavoda NPP Unit 2 was reconnected to the National Power Grid during the morning of December 10th 2017, following to reach full power the same day.

We remind the fact that Cernavoda NPP Unit 2 was shutdown in a controlled manner and disconnected from the National Power Grid during the evening of 07.12.2017 in order to carry out preventive verification, control and punctual intervention works on a series of systems, in order to improve their reliability for the winter period: the excitation system of the electric generator, calibration works, replacement of environment qualified kits, the mechanical system of the fuel loading-unloading machine. As per the reliability testing program announced on 06.12.2017, to the mentioned system, in addition remediation works were carried out on the by-pass system related to the turbine, in the classical part of the power plant.

SN Nuclearelectrica SA informs that in compliance with the nuclear safety norms and the procedures of the power plant, such interventions can only be performed with the reactor in shut down mode.

The above mentioned activities were performed during the outage under nuclear safety conditions, ensuring the safety of the operating personnel, population and environment,

As the operator of the nuclear units in Cernavoda, SN Nuclearelectrica SA reserves its right to carry out preventive testing, control and remediation works in strict compliance with the nuclear safety standards and the preventive maintenance programs, as communicated to CNCAN.
